Trademark classes in India
Can I file in multiple classes in one application in India?
Yes. Under the Trade Marks Act, 1999, a single application can cover goods and services in several classes. The official fee is charged for each class included.
Which classes cover goods and which cover services?
Classes 1 to 34 cover goods and Classes 35 to 45 cover services. A business that sells products and also offers a service, such as a café that sells packaged coffee, often needs both.
Is the class heading enough as my specification?
Class headings are general indications of the field a class covers. Listing the specific goods or services you use, or intend to use, describes your rights more clearly and is less likely to draw an objection.
Do I need Class 35 if I sell my products online?
Your products are protected in their own goods classes. Class 35 covers retail and online store services, so it becomes relevant when you run a store or marketplace, especially one selling a range of goods.
Which edition of the Nice Classification does this tool use?
It uses the official WIPO data for NCL 13-2026, in force from 1 January 2026. The data is refreshed when WIPO publishes a new version.
